BTRs

Use the following chart to analyze what is happening with your BTR.

BTR Status Lights

There is an array of 24 LED’s on the BTR motherboard showing the current status of operation.

The array is arranged as 2 rows of 12 LED’s labeled D1 to D24.

LED

Signal Monitored

Description

D1 READY(H) When the board is powered on this LED briefly goes on then off indicating that the BTR is ready to operate. This is the same signal that is on pin 14 of J2, the connector that goes to the DNC computer. When pin 14 is +12v, D1 goes off.
D2 FROM_DNC Normally on. Flashes when there is RS-232 data flow from the DNC computer. Pin 15 of J2.
D3 TO_DNC Normally on. Flashes when there is RS-232 data flow to the DNC computer from the BTR. Pin 17 of J2.
D4 RUN(L) This is the AND’ed combination of DATA REQUESTand SPROCKET. On BTR Rev 0 this signal is normally on when no data request is coming from the controller. On BTR Rev 1and 2 it is normally off. It flashes on/off when data is requested indicating part program data flow from BTR to controller. The signal for this LED is brought to pin 10 of J2.
D5 REV(L) Goes off when controller requests data in the reverse direction. J4 pin 43.
D6 RS-232_IN Normally on. Flashes when there is RS-232 data flow from an outside source (CNC serial punch port, for example.) Pin 2 of J2.
D7 RS-232_OUT Normally on. Flashes when there is RS-232 data flow to an outside source. Output occurs on this line whenever parallel PTR data is being output. Pin 2 of J2.
D8 SELPTR(L) On when DNC/PTR switch is in the DNC position.
D9 RST(L) Normally on. Goes off briefly when the reset signal is forced during the power on cycle and between queued files. J4 pin 45.
D10 FROM_CNC(L) Normally on. Goes off when a job is queued to be receive via the FACIT port (J5.)
D11 TO_CNC(L) Normally off. This is the power on default state. Indicates that a job can be queued to be sent to the NC/CNC via the parallel personality card port, J4.
D12 SERIAL_IN(L) Normally on. Goes off when a job is queued to be received via the serial input. Pin 2 of J2.
D13 EN_PNCH(L) Normally on. Goes off when the FROM_CNC(L) signal is TRUE and the DNC/PTR switch is in the DNC position.
D14 EN_DNC(L) Normally off. The power on default state if the DNC/PTR switch is in the DNC position. This is the TO_DNC(L) signal AND’ed with the DNC/PTR switch.

Shows the states of the 8 data bits on the parallel personality card port, J4 pins 23-37. LED is on if bit is in the logic 1 state (+5 volts) and off if logic 0 (0 volts.)
D23 STROBE The SPROCKET(H) signal on the parallel personality card port, J4 pin 39. Normally on. Goes off between data characters.
D24 DATA REQUEST Shows the state of the DIRUN(H) signal on the parallel personality card port, J4 pin 41. Goes on when DIRUN(H), the CNC is data request signal is logic 1.
