Database Utilities

Overview

SuiteFactory provides some basic database utilities primarily for Access databases.  If you have SQL Server refer to SQL references for performing these functions.

Main Tool Bar (Database Utilities)

Click on the File/Database Utilities menu and the following Window will be displayed.

Exclusive Access Notification

You are notified that in order to use these Utilities this Utility needs to have exclusive access to the database and therefore all activity will need to be stopped. Click the OK button if you want to proceed.

Communications Engine to be Stopped

You are notified that in order to use these Utilities this Utility needs to stop the Communications Engine. Click the Yes button if you want to proceed.

Database Utilities Window

Chose the particular function you want to perform and click that button.

See the following for details.

Repair the Database

This function is used when you receive an error that the database is corrupted.  This is a silent fix so you will have no feedback. It usually takes only a few seconds to complete.

Compact the Database

You should use this function when the color of the green "Street Light" Icon turns to red indicating that the database has grown larger then you would like. This Icon is located on the main tool bar in the lower left hand corner. This is not a critical situation and can be done at your convenience.  The notification is based on a size that is set in the database configuration.

Note: Access database grow every time a transaction takes place. It is the nature of the beast so database growth is to be expected and compacting the database periodically is recommended.

Copy the Database to a different Folder

Periodically you may want to do a complete backup of the database to another location on the LAN.  If you are doing any maintenance on the database it may make sense to do a backup.

Select Backup Folder

Select where you would like to backup the database to and click the OK button.

Progress Window for while copying

As the backup is being performed you will get feedback via the window above.
